Your Local Store

The Poway Walmart opened in 1992 as San Diego County’s first Walmart store. Since that time, the Walmart store has been an integral part of the Poway community.

From community events, to educational programs and medical research, Walmart’s involvement in the Poway community touches all aspects of Powegians’ lives.

Community Housing Works

The Poway Walmart store recently provided a $1,000 grant to Community Housing Works. Community Housing Works owns and operates five affordable housing communities in Poway, several of which are in close proximity to the Walmart store.

3rd Brigade Certificate of Commendation

In August 2009, the Poway Walmart store was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade Special Forces Troops Battalion, Bayonet Company, at FOB Bernstein, Iraq. The store supported “Operation Caregiver” by providing care packages to our men and women deployed in Iraq.”

Poway Rodeo 2009

The Poway Rodeo concluded the 2009 Poway Days events. Walmart was the presenting sponsor for Saturday’s performance, dubbed "Walmart Family Saturday." Store associates participated in the event, staffing a booth to share information on Walmart’s effort to bring groceries to its Poway store.

Poway Days 2009

Poway Days 2009 kicked off on Saturday, September 12. The Poway Walmart Store was proud to be the lead sponsor of both the Poway Days Heritage Parade and the MotorHead Madness Classic Car Show.

Walmart associates and friends marched in the parade, carrying banners in recognition of our local community partners. At the MotorHead Madness event, store associates shared information regarding efforts to include groceries in the Poway store.

The Poway Walmart Store also participated in the Poway Days Festival street fair. The store’s parking lot served as a kid zone, and associates shared store information with fair go-ers.

Wrapping up Poway Days, Walmart will serve as the presenting sponsor of the Poway Rodeo’s "Walmart Family Super Saturday" on Saturday, September 26. Click here for more information on the Poway Rodeo.

In January 2009, Poway Walmart Store Manager Art Gladue was awarded the United States Marine Corps Certificate of Commendation for his support of our Marines during last year’s holiday season. The Poway Walmart store provided funds to purchase care packages for our troops stationed in Iraq.
